Rubbermaid Totes

Designer in Collaboration with Senior Designer
The overall goal of the totes program was threefold (1) improve nesting; (2) reinforce product strength; (3) reduce resin consumption and weight of product to reduce shipping costs due to high oil prices.  I collaborated with plastics and mold engineers to optimize wall thickness and draft angles to achieve optimal nesting while maintaining durability and reducing weight. Ultimately, we used 32% less resin to produce the totes, allowing Rubbermaid to stack more totes on pallets, reduce shipping costs and increase overall revenue.
Implementing a brand-wide design language established by the Design Team thru the use of texture breaks and in-mold labeling. Ensuring fit and function across varying sizes as well as user experience of the latching models and grip areas.
Once we had completed the larger opaque resin Totes we moved onto upgrading the clear poly propylene offerings typically used for smaller items and closet organization.
